Rockefeller Center is a complex of 19 commercial buildings covering 22 acres in the heart of Midtown Manhattan, New York City. The development was was conceived on the verge of the Great Depression, and Rockefeller financed the center personally, making it the largest private building project in modern history at the time.
The complex was designed by a team of architects and artists, who created a collection of buildings with a strong Art Deco aesthetic. The buildings are adorned with sculptures, mosaics, and murals that reflect the cultural and social influences of the time. The centerpiece of the complex is the 70-story Rockefeller Plaza, which was the world's tallest building when it was completed in 1933.
Today, Rockefeller Center is one of the world's most famous tourist destinations and a vibrant commercial hub. As the only museum of Queens history in the borough, the Society plans, researches and mounts a regular series of history­related exhibitions and lecture series in its gallery space totaling 1,350 square feet at the Kingsland Homestaed. It also conducts walking tours of the borough.

The only borough-wide historic preservation organization in New York City. Organized in 1977, the PLSI’s mission is to: enrich Staten Island’s sense of community by promoting and advocating the conservation of its diverse and significant historic built environment and cultural landscapes. It has been active in advocating for preservation through various programs including a yearly awards program, a newsletter on preservation issues, home tours and technical assistance.
